I am happiest when I’m creating something stunningly unique. Dessert has always been my favorite part of any meal. I find energy in the process of translating ideas into a delicious works of art.
Each cake I create comes from a place of joy.
I’m self-taught.
When I left my corporate career, I began baking daily, for the simple joy of it. I was already a home baking enthusiast. Soon, though, I found myself studying pastry textbooks, honing my piping skills on overturned pots, and mixing dozens of batches of the same cake just to see how different amounts of leavening affected the outcome. I was in deep.
What began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion that now fuels my days. I continue to approach baking as a craft to be nurtured, exercised, and most importantly...shared!
I’m a nerd.
I was a data scientist for two decades before shifting my focus to cakes in a serious way. The tactile, artistic, and interpersonal work of custom cake design has been a revitalizing change of pace for me.
That said, my well-developed logical brain is a welcome friend in my kitchen. I bring it to the meticulous testing of recipes; to the process of getting a cake's edges smoothed just so; and to the organization of baking schedules. I still love (and use) a well-crafted spreadsheet!
I’m versatile.
If energy is going into a cake, that energy is mine. I'm the designer, baker, decorator, photographer, website developer, email answerer, and dish washer around here. I thrive on exercising so many different skills every day!
When I’m not caking, I’m often baking! Outside the kitchen, I'm raising my three young sons with my husband, Seth. We enjoy camping, being silly together, and tasting cake scraps. Most of all, though, we are a family who adores a good (bad) pun. They take the cake (groan)!
